Politically–Correct Toilets don't Flush!

Political–Correctness asserts that anything that is different or deviates from the official line is incorrect (i.e., wrong!), and that anyone whose opinion differs is blocking human advancement (therefore, deserving of censure and repression). The very assertion of "correctness" eliminates any reasonable difference of opinion or civil discourse.

Both the term, Politically Correct (PC), and the movement were started by Mao Tse-Tung during the time he was considered a near-deity, both in China and among many of the naive, idealistic youth of the world. It was also the precursor to massive repression of all knowledge and expertise in China and to the resulting widespread starvation and extreme loss of human liberties and lives there, and in like–minded countries (e.g., Cambodia). Mao's cult of personality and profound distrust of the very concept of rights and freedoms of individuals were best expressed in official "politically–correct thought." From the rewriting of human history and literature, through the purging of language, and on into debasing the very concept of individual human rights, the PC Movement in America has faithfully honored the precepts of its founder to the present day.

In spite of often–vicious repression, skeptics of the "Politically–Correct" or "PC Movement" abound. It is probably not an accident that Mao's movement and term gained such a strong following among the American Vietnam–era draft–dodgers who took over most of America's academia, first by force and later by exclusionary tactics. The irony and tragedy is that American (indeed, Western) academia's prior history encouraged individual freedom of thought and expression, both anathema to PC reality. Universities are always fertile ground to recruit naive, rebellious, students anxious to be given "correct" answers they can parrot back for approval (good grades, social acceptance, etc.): thinking for oneself is so hard ... and even harder to teach.

The youth of today, in spite of pressure to the contrary by their peers and trusted teachers, need to learn to think clearly, rationally and logically for themselves. The PC–Movement is a hoax, along the same lines as religious cults, promising answers to all questions to those who vow unquestioning obedience. No more powerful gift can one give oneself than the ability to think clearly and to formulate a methodology to search for one's own truth.

In academia, where PCism is most onerous, a counter–culture free–speech movement is gaining momentum. This movement is prominently exemplified by a group called "FIRE," an acronym for the "Foundation for Individual Rights in Education." To see for yourself some of the ludicrous extents the PC crowd has tried to enforce on what they consider their home turf, contact FIRE, following.

Mark Twain was of the opinion that the best way to expose a fraud was through the use of humor. Like Mark Twain's death, the benefits of Political Correctness have been greatly exaggerated. In fact, many consider PC's "benefits," especially those which have been enacted into law (e.g., environmental extremism), to be liabilities that have led, inexorably, to both an erosion of our individual freedoms and of our standard of living. At the very least, most Americans would agree that the PC laws mandated on Americans to use "water–saving toilets" that must be flushed repeatedly, and that often clog, has been a counter–productive irritant in our daily lives. In that respect, PC toilets (and PC showers that dribble water) are a daily violation of my personal right to the Pursuit of Happiness enshrined in the US Constitution.

Speaking personally, it is the very height of irony that I, a Conservative Republican, was awarded a Chinese medal declaring me a "Friend of the People" when, in America, the PC crowd consider me an enemy of the people. My being a geologist who seeks the earth's bountiful resources to benefit the people of the earth has led to both praise (in modern–day China) and condemnation (from America's PC)! Of course, the older Chinese experienced the devastating consequences of "political–correctness" run amok; our PC crowd hasn't (yet!). One of my purposes in writing this piece is to encourage readers to think for themselves, rather than to let others (whether PC or not) think for them: if enough people think for themselves, the PC-movement will die a well–deserved death.

Without further ado, the sanctimonious sophistry that is PC follows.

Politically–Correct Toilets Don't Flush!

  • PC Heroes.

  •
  • PC Enemies.
  • Any for–profit Firm is not PC. (Profit is sleaze. Capitalism is evil!) The irony is that tax–subsidized non–profits compete with taxpayers for the same contracts and often depend upon the same governmental data bases.

  •
  • PC–states (e.g., California) have rolling blackouts, which they blame on the non–PC, especially the energy producers. Since the PC don't produce anything except rhetoric, loss–of–rights and poverty, the PC rules and regulations designed to close all sources of energy couldn't be to blame, could they? Texans are fond of saying: "Let the PC Bastards Freeze in the Dark." And so it shall be, because energy not produced cannot be consumed.
